Reflection

Reflection turns the structure back upon its own operations. After execution, residue, identity, and automation, the system becomes capable of witnessing itself as system. The work is concerned with recursive awareness: the moment at which the subject no longer simply acts, but perceives the mechanisms through which it has come to act. Reflection is not innocence and not yet freedom. It is observation under condition, a self encountering its own arrangements, repetitions, and inherited logic. The painting stages consciousness as an interior act of recognition in which the observer and the observed remain uneasily bound.
